Questions to ask your doctors
The most important person on your healthcare team is you. The Partnership for Clear Health Communication recommends that you ask three simple questions every time you talk with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
- What is my main problem?
- What do I need to do?
- Why is it important for me to do this?
Don’t leave the appointment until you feel comfortable that you understand everything your doctor told you. And don’t be afraid of offending your doctor by getting a second opinion.
Below are questions that you can take with you to your doctors appointment. One contains questions for your primary care doctor, the other is for your gastroenterologist, also called a GI doctor – someone who specializes in disorders of the digestive system.
